Department of Social Studies
Introduction
The department of social studies education was established in 2078 B.S. which offers MSSEd course. Master of Social Studies Education (MSSEd) program is a six-semester program. The government of Nepal has been introducing social studies as compulsory subject in school education for more than a half century without preparing qualified and trained social studies teachers. National Curriculum Framework 2076 has included social studies from grade 1 to 12. Tribhuvan University, Faculty of Education (FoE) has introduced a new six-semester 104 credit hours Master Degree Program in social studies from current year. The newly introduced program is intended to develop teacher and educators who are highly knowledgeable and competent in contents and methods in social studies. The program assists in the development of a professional social studies teachers and educators, which includes geography, history, civics, economics, and other social sciences. MSSEd program concentrates on developing content understanding in social studies education as well as various approaches to teaching such concepts to the students.
Eligibility
Students having a bachelor degree in education are eligible to apply for the MSSEd program.
Course Structure and Cycle
Each student must study 34 courses with 104 credit hours to earn MSSEd Degree. These courses are divided into three categories: communication/life skills, professional/pedagogy, contents research/thesis and teaching internship courses.
